An amazing Big5 South African safari over three days. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is on the top of many local and international travelers lists. Your Big5 safari starts from Durban city.
Day one – Traveling along the KwaZulu-Natal coast we arrive at Emdoneni Lodge. Here we will learn of Emdoneni’s efforts at educating people about cheetah and other African wild cats. Over the years Emdoneni has successfully released cats back into the surrounding wilderness. After our close encounter with these amazing cats we make our way to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park.
This pristine, world renowned park is rich in wildlife. The ‘Big5′ are what Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park is famed for. Surrounding us, numerous other mammal, reptile and bird life species can be found, including hyena, cheetah, hippo and African wild dog. Once through Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park’s Nyalazi Gate, we go straight into a safari game drive, looking out for the ‘Big5’ and the numerous other animal and bird species found inside the park. Our first night will be at Mpila Camp. Mpila is situated in the Imfolozi side of the safari park. The camp is not fenced, so animals are free to roam through the camp grounds. Hyena often visit the camp at night, to see what food they can scavenge from the barbecue/braai areas. Waking up in the morning, one can expect to find zebra, giraffe, antelope and even elephant wandering through, or close to camp. Dinner will be a bush braai/barbecue prepared by your guide.
Day two – After a breakfast prepared by your guide, we make our way towards Hilltop Camp in the Hluhluwe side of the park. Hilltop camp is fenced and offers a more relaxed environment after the thrill of an un-fenced Mpila camp. The rest of the day will be spent continuing our wildlife viewing activities. The late afternoon can be spent around the pool, or stocking up on curio’s at the camps shop. Dinner will be at Hilltop camp’s Mpunyane restaurant.
Day three – A final breakfast at Hilltop’s restaurant is followed by a game drive with your safari guide. We make our way out of Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park and onto St Lucia(Isimangaliso Wetland Park) for a boat cruise along the estuary. Here you will be able to view, crocodile, hippo and fish eagle. A perfect opportunity for photographers to capture the beauty of this World Heritage Site. We will make our return journey to Durban for the late afternoon.
